Tropicos is a website made by the Missouri botanical garden, it is a great reference for all kinds of plants, you can find information from correct plant names to descriptions of plants they have collected from various locations around the world, and also learn about their on going projects.
RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) international orchid register this is the place to go to check the parentage of orchid hybrids, there is also a form you can download to register your own orchid hybrid, as well as this there is lots of information about other plants that you may find useful.
